Our PTA
Parent Teacher Association
Overview
The mission of every member of the Roedean Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is to create a life of significance for our children.
All parents and guardians of students attending the school become members of the PTA for as long as that student remains in the school. All teachers who enter into permanent employment with the school become members of the PTA for as long as they are so employed. Members of the PTA are not required to pay any subscription or membership fee in respect of their membership of the PTA.
The Executive Committee of the Roedean PTA is constituted as a standing committee of the Board of Directors of Roedean. It consists of between 15 and 25 parents, collectively elected in the Junior School and in the Senior School; the Executive Director, the heads of the Junior and Senior Schools, and a representative of the South African Old Roedeanian Association (SAORA). One member of the committee has a seat on the Roedean Board.
Overview
Our Responsibilities
The PTA has the following responsibilities:
- To collect funds, accept donations, bequests or legacies, and to hold, invest, realise and reinvent such funds;
- To organise and hold functions for fundraising or social purposes, and to support the activities of the school;
- To assist financially or otherwise in the provision of additional facilities, academic or otherwise, which the Executive Director considers of benefit to the school;
- To expend funds received by the PTA in pursuance of the objects of the PTA.
In all its activities and in the fulfilment of its mandates, the PTA co-operates with the school, the Board, the Executive Director and staff on any matters desired by them and acknowledges the authority of the Board and the Executive Director in all matters of policy, education, finance, property, organisation, administration and discipline of the school.
Overview
Our Objectives
Objectives
The objectives of the PTA are to:
- Support and further the interests and welfare of Roedean, and of its staff and students;
- Foster a spirit of community amongst the parents, teachers and students of Roedean; and
- Provide a channel of communication between the parents of students in Roedean and the school.
Funding
Our Income Streams
Fundraising initiatives are categorised as either an annual fundraising event or as part of an ongoing fundraising initiative. The funds collected from these events go to school development projects aimed at improving the learning experience of our pupils.
MySchool Card
Funds are raised for our school on a monthly basis. Cardholders simply swipe their MySchool Supporter Card when shopping at one of the many MySchool partners. These include Woolworths, Engen QuickShops, Bidvest Walton’s, Altech Netstar and Power24.co.za prepaid electricity to name just a few.
The Bookshop
The annual Senior School textbook drive is a major PTA fundraising initiative and is a mammoth task in its planning, organisation, and distribution. We liaise with the teachers as to which textbooks will be required for the following year. We then source these textbooks from various suppliers and order.
Stationery Sales
The PTA facilitates the supply and sale in the Junior School, and up to Lower 5 (Grade 8) in the Senior School, of stationery packs as well as art supply packs. These are sourced according to teacher requirements and are delivered in the last week of the third term.
Committee
Joining the PTA Executive Committee
Every Parent is a member of the PTA and thus is eligible for election to the Executive Committee of the PTA. Nomination forms go out annually in the first term of school.
New committee members are elected at the PTA’s AGM held annually in the first term of school, usually in March. All parents and staff receive written notice of this meeting and are invited to attend.
Get Involved
Sign up as a Volunteer
There is no “I” in team, but we sure are glad there is a “U” in our volunteers!
All Roedean parents are invited to be part of a community where we join hands in an effort to make the Roedean experience a pleasant and collaborative one. By constitution, all the parents of Roedean are part of the PTA.
As the elected committee members of the PTA, we invite parents to participate and volunteer to help in the numerous events, portfolios, and initiatives at Roedean.
Please download the form below and mail it to pta@roedeanschool.co.za or drop it off at any Roedean reception.
